Morrison Government welcomes Adult Learners Week 2021 with record support to help adults to reskill and ‘change your story’

The Hon Stuart Robert MP
Minister for Employment, Workforce, Skills, Small and Family Business

The Morrison Government is supporting Adult Learners Week 2021 by highlighting opportunities for Australian adults to learn new skills through pathways guaranteed by record levels of federal funding.

The theme of Adult Learners Week 2021 is ‘Change Your Story’ to focus on the opportunities adult education can generate for all Australians—be it to make a career change or get back into the workforce.

Minister for Employment, Workforce, Skills, Small and Family Business, Stuart Robert, said the Morrison Government was putting record funding into skills and training to give adult Australians choices about pathways to a job, a career change, or to equip them with future-proofing skills in a rapidly evolving world.

‘Adult Learners Week is a great way for people to find new opportunities through adult education. We know that lifelong learning is so important and is vital in equipping people with the right skills to get into a job,’ Minister Robert said.

‘We are backing people to have a crack at learning a new skill or to upgrade an existing one through initiatives like our $2 billion JobTrainer Fund, which has already funded 230,000 course enrolments in free or low-fee training courses across the nation in areas of identified skills need,’

‘This week we’re focused on highlighting the importance of re-engaging those who may have missed out on learning earlier in their life through things like the Skills for Education and Employment program, the Adult Migrant English Program and the Foundation Skills for Your Future program.

‘Whether you are re-engaging with education, or getting skills to future-proof your career, there has never been a better time to learn a new skill and I would remind employers there are significant wage subsidies in place if you take a crack on an adult apprentice or trainee.’

Adult Learners Week runs from 1-8 September and offers events around Australia. There are a range of activities, from free online courses to help you improve basic digital skills, tips on looking for jobs, through to vocational education and training. There are also stories from people from all walks of life who have changed their story by taking that first step to learn new skills.
