Acting Minister for Education and Youth
The Hon Luke Howarth MP

The Morrison Government will invest $1.2 billion over four years to deliver an expanded Transition to Work employment service that will help disadvantaged young Australians find jobs or complete their education.

37 organisations across Australia were selected to deliver the expanded Transition to Work employment service, which, from July 2022, forms part of Workforce Australia—the largest reforms to employment services since 1998.

Minister for Employment, Workforce, Skills, Small and Family Business, Stuart Robert, said Transition to Work has consistently achieved strong results and the Morrison Government is committed to seeing every Australian who can work get into a job.

‘The Morrison Government’s economic plan is working and today’s announcement builds on our commitment to deliver generational skilling, not generational scarring,’ Minister Robert said.

‘Transition to Work, as part of Workforce Australia, is about getting young Australians, particularly young disadvantaged Australians, into jobs or complete their education.

‘Since it started in 2016, more than 145,580 young people have used the service, resulting in 89,950 job placements and more than 50,480 placements into accredited education and training.’

Assistant Minister for Youth and Employment Services, Luke Howarth, said with jobs available and more people getting into work, the Morrison Government is securing our future even with record low youth unemployment levels.

‘We’re committed to helping young people finish their education and find work, and I’m pleased that participants and employers are getting such great results through the Transition to Work service,’ Assistant Minister Howarth said.

‘Even with record low youth unemployment, from July this year, Transition to Work is expected to support an average commenced caseload of around 41,000 disadvantaged young people at any point in time.’

Current Transition to Work contracts were due to expire on 30 June 2022. The Government undertook an open, competitive procurement process with new contracts expiring in June 2027.
