The Minister for Employment Participation, Brendan O’Connor today acknowledged Drake International as member of the Australian Government’s Corporate Leaders for Indigenous Employment Project.
During a ceremony at Parliament House today, Mr O’Connor today joined Drake International Chairman, Bill Pollock, in renewing the company’s commitment to increasing employment opportunities for Indigenous Australians.
Mr O’Connor said the partnership with the Australian Government will create valuable employment opportunities for Indigenous Australians across the Drake’s national network of offices. Drake International is a global human resources and placement company.
“This is a very welcome and significant step in our nationwide Corporate Leaders project,” Mr O’Connor said.
“Drake International was one of the first Australian companies to develop an Indigenous Employment Strategy demonstrating their commitment to creating and enhancing employment opportunities for Indigenous Australians.
“Drake’s philosophy is based on the principle that organisations achieve the highest level of performance when they are staffed with the right people, working with the right skills, knowledge, using the best processes and technology-driven solutions, over an extended period of time.
“In signing this MOU, Drake has committed not only to renewing their own Indigenous recruitment and retention strategy, but to using its extensive regional network to promote Indigenous employment across Australia.”
Mr O’Connor said the Australian Government was firmly committed to closing the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous employment within a decade.
“However this is something that Government cannot do alone and will continue to support all efforts by the corporate sector in creating employment opportunities for Indigenous people,” he said.
More than 95 Australian business or enterprise have joined the Corporate Leaders Project with signatories committed to creating employment, career pathways and business opportunities for Indigenous Australians.
