Ministers:

The Hon Luke Hartsuyker MP
Assistant Minister for Employment
Deputy Leader of the House
Member for Cowper

The Australian Government’s Work for the Dole moved to the next stage today with the announcement of new Work for the Dole Coordinators in 18 selected areas across Australia.

"The Government is committed to a reinvigorated Work for the Dole programme which helps job seekers remain active and engaged while looking for work," Assistant Minister for Employment, Luke Hartsuyker said.

"From 1 July 2014, the Government has rolled out new Work for the Dole arrangements for job seekers aged 18 to 30 years in targeted regions across Australia. Over 1600 young job seekers have now commenced in Work for the Dole activities and are gaining new skills and experience.

"The new Work for the Dole Coordinators will build on this work to date and serve as the first point of contact for organisations wishing to be involved in Work for the Dole, and offer places to eligible young job seekers.

"Work for the Dole provides job seekers with structure and support in a work-like setting while they are looking for a job. It allows participants to demonstrate to future employers that they are keen and willing to work while at the same time making a positive contribution to their local community.

"I congratulate the successful tenderers and their commitment to helping young job seekers through Work for the Dole.”

As part of the 2014–15 Budget, the Government provided $14.9 million for Work for the Dole, including funding for Work for the Dole Coordinators. The reinvigorated Work for the Dole programme will move to a national scheme from 1 July 2015.
