The Hon Luke Hartsuyker MP
Assistant Minister for Employment
Jane Prentice MP
Member for Ryan

Jane Prentice, Federal Member for Ryan, today welcomed the Assistant Minister for Employment, the Hon. Luke Hartsuyker MP to the electorate to help launch the Coalition Government’s new jobactive services.

Speaking at Sarina Russo Job Access at Indooroopilly, Mrs Prentice said that the Government’s new $6.8 billion jobactive service would help meet the needs of local job seekers and employers, especially young job seekers.

“Given that 40% of job seekers in Ryan are aged under 30, it is vital that we are doing all we can to help more young people move from welfare to work,” Mrs Prentice said.

“One of the key features of the new jobactive service is the Youth Wage Subsidy which provides up to $6,500 to an employer who takes on an eligible young job seeker.

“This subsidy can help employers with the upfront costs of hiring and training a young person and can help open more doors for young job seekers.

“The Coalition also understands that the lack of work experience can be a real barrier for young people trying to get started.

“That is why the Government is introducing the new National Work Experience Programme which will allow young job seekers to undertake up to four weeks work experience in a business.

“Job seekers are able to gain practical experience that they can add to their résumé to demonstrate (to a future employer) that they are keen and willing to work.”

Mrs Prentice said that Work for the Dole would also help job seekers gain new skills and experience as well as giving something back to the community while they are looking for work.

Mr Hartsuyker said that older job seekers and employers would also benefit from the Restart wage subsidy of up to $10,000.

“As part of the changes in the Budget, the Government has now made it easier for employers to access the Restart subsidy. From 1 November, the subsidy will be paid over 12 months, down from 24 months.

“Employers will also be able to receive the subsidy sooner with payments available on a fortnightly basis which can help with cash-flow,” Mr Hartsuyker said.

jobactive services are being delivered across the Ryan electorate by Sarina Russo Job Access, APM, HELP Enterprises, MAX Employment, Nortec and Tursa Employment.

Mr Hartsuyker said that he looked forward to working with Mrs Prentice and the jobactive services to help more job seekers into work in the Ryan electorate.
