My School website to go live tomorrow

Ministers:

The Hon Julia Gillard MP
Minister for Education. Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations
Minister for Social Inclusion
Deputy Prime Minister

From tomorrow morning, all Australian parents, teachers and school communities will have access to comprehensive information on every school in the country through the new My School website.

My School will give parents and the wider community more information than they have ever had before about their local school and how it is performing in the foundation subjects of literacy and numeracy.

My School will contain a school report card on the almost 10 000 government, independent and Catholic schools across Australia.

The detailed performance information on the site includes:

  • results from national literacy and numeracy tests;
  • student numbers;
  • staff numbers including non-teaching staff;
  • attendance rates;
  • socio-economic status of the school community; and
  • Year 12 retention rates.

Importantly, parents will also be able to see how their child’s school is performing in the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN), compared with similar schools.

High-performing schools identified by the website will be used to influence new education policy and reform, and best practice measures will be shared with schools that need help.

For schools that are found to be struggling, the Rudd Government is standing ready with support and new funding to drive improvement in literacy and numeracy.

My School is an important step in the Government’s Education Revolution—providing unprecedented transparency and helping drive vital improvements in school education.
