Appointment of new Comcare Chief Executive

Media Release: Acting Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, Senator Mark Arbib

The Acting Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, Senator Mark Arbib, today announced the appointment of Mr Paul O’Connor as Comcare’s Chief Executive Officer.

Mr O’Connor will begin his new role with Comcare tomorrow, 1 September 2009.

Mr O’Connor brings to Comcare an impressive record in safety promotion, risk management and insurance in Australia and overseas.

Most recently Mr O’Connor served as the CEO of Victoria’s Transport Accident Commission, and has also worked at a senior level in WorkCover Queensland.

Comcare manages and regulates for the Commonwealth’s occupational health and safety and workers’ compensation arrangements.

As CEO, Mr O’Connor will be responsible for ensuring that, in partnership with employers, employees and other relevant parties, Comcare achieves its vision for Australia’s safest workplaces.

Minister Arbib thanked Mr Steve Kibble, the Deputy CEO of Comcare, for so ably acting in the CEO role before Mr O’Connor’s commencement.

The Government will shortly be responding to the review of Comcare in the context of the harmonisation of national Occupational Health and Safety.
