Staff and students at La Trobe University in Shepparton will have access to the very latest in educational facilities following the official opening of an innovative five star green building at the regional campus today.
The Minister for Tertiary Education, Senator Chris Evans, welcomed the opening of the University’s most innovative learning space with its high energy rating reflecting international best practice.
“I am proud to see such an impressive new building open at La Trobe University in Shepparton and bringing together all of the University’s local activities in one campus,” Senator Evans said.
“This project is a great example of the Gillard Government’s commitment to improving access to research and quality teaching within our higher education system.”
Features of the new facility include a unique modern design incorporating the latest in multi-functional open teaching and learning spaces. The building has modern audio visual capacity, staff and student facilities, a nursing preclinical laboratory and academic, administration and atrium space.
“This new building will enable the University to enhance its teaching and research and allow the students to study in a modern, purpose-built learning environment,” Senator Evans said.
“The Government believes that all Australians, no matter where they live, should have access to world-class education facilities.
“That’s why we are making record investments in our education system – from early childhood learning to our universities and training colleges.”
The Australian Government invested $5.7 million in the new Shepparton facility. Funding contributions were also made by the Victorian Government, La Trobe Capital Management Plan and the City of Greater Shepparton.
