Ministers:

The Hon Kate Ellis MP
Minister for Employment Participation
Minister for Early Childhood and Child Care

At least 500 jobs and training opportunities will be on offer at the Australian Government’s Jobs and Skills Expo in Penrith today.

Minister for Employment Participation Kate Ellis will join the Federal Member for Lindsay David Bradbury to officially open the expo where more than 100 exhibitors will set up shop.

Ms Ellis said Penrith was the 75th expo to be held across Australia since 2009 and follows a successful expo held last year in Penrith where more than 700 jobs were available.

“I’m very excited with the variety of jobs and training options available at the Expo. Diverse employment opportunities from trades to retail and from administration to specialist positions are among the many jobs on offer today,” Ms Ellis said.

“From jobs in regular trades to apprenticeships and jobs for professionals – whoever you are, there are great job and training opportunities at the Penrith Expo.

“We know these expos are getting results – bringing employers, job seekers and training providers together in a single location. More than 26,000 people have been connected with employment and training opportunities so far.”

“The Australian Government is supporting employers through programs and incentives to help find and train people.

“This expo provides a great opportunity to connect employers with potential staff.”

Federal Member for Lindsay David Bradbury said the Penrith expo was part of the Gillard Government’s ongoing commitment to job creation.

“Exhibiting is free and this expo is a great opportunity for local employers to connect with local jobseekers. If you can’t be an exhibitor, your job vacancy or skills training opportunity can still be displayed at the expo on the day,” Mr Bradbury said.

“Penrith is one of 20 regions across Australia currently receiving targeted assistance from the Government in order to create more local jobs.

“I am very pleased that this is the third expo the Government has held in our local area since 2009. Thousands of local residents have secured jobs through these expos.

“In addition, Local Employment Coordinator Narelle Wheatland is working hard with local stakeholders to address the barriers and challenges facing our local labour market.”

The Penrith Jobs and Skills Expo will have a jobs board with jobs on offer as well as a skills board where local skills training organisations can promote training opportunities available in the local area.

The Australian Government Jobs and Skills Expo will be held on Tuesday, 23 April 2013 from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm at the Panthers Exhibition Marquee, Mulgoa Rd, Penrith.

Ms Ellis and Mr Bradbury will officially open the Expo at midday.
