The Australian Government’s successful one-stop-jobs and skills shop will return to Adelaide after notching up an important milestone – 25,000 job placements.

Minister for Employment Participation Kate Ellis said the Jobs and Skills Expo will be in Adelaide on Wednesday, 12 June providing hundreds of employment and skills training opportunities for Adelaide job seekers.

“Our Government’s travelling employment road show has seen an extraordinary success with more than 25,000 job seekers connected with jobs as a direct result of the expos,” Ms Ellis said.

“The expos are a very practical way to connect job seekers looking for work with employers looking to fill job vacancies and training positions.

“I’m delighted that we now have another Jobs and Skills Expo locked-in for Adelaide.

“A previous Jobs and Skills Expos held in Adelaide last October saw more than 5 000 job seekers explore the hundreds of employment and skills training opportunities that were on offer.

“That’s why I’ve bought the Jobs and Skills Expo back to Adelaide to build on that success.

“Jobs are the number one priority for my electorate.”

Ms Ellis said she was expecting another big turn-out on the day and would help promote the event over the next few weeks.

“This is a major chance for job seekers to talk to employers and sign up for jobs or training,” she said.

“This expo is a practical way for our Government to help job seekers from all over Adelaide to find more information about real jobs on offer locally as well as skills and training opportunities to advance their careers.

“They are a unique way of assisting people who are genuinely looking for work.

“There’ll be big jobs boards filled with current and future job vacancies and skills training opportunities in many different fields, for people of all ages and skill sets.

“There will also be the Resources Sector Jobs Board to help local job seekers make the most employment opportunities in the booming resources industry.

“People attending the expo can expect a carnival like atmosphere but with a very real purpose and that is to find jobs for local job seekers.”

Ms Ellis said programs like the Jobs and Skills Expos shows the Gillard Government’s commitment to providing employment opportunities to all Australians.

“The Expos form part of the Australian Government’s $3 billion ‘Building Australia’s Future Workforce’ package to tackle unemployment and skills gaps in areas that need it most,” Ms Ellis said.

The Adelaide Jobs and Skills Expo is the 79th in the program.

The Australian Government Jobs and Skills Expo will be held on Wednesday, 12 June from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Port Road, Hindmarsh.
