Jobs Expo coming to Maitland
Parliamentary Secretary for Employment, Jason Clare, today joined Hunter MP, Joel Fitzgibbon, to launch theKeep Australia WorkingJobs Expo, to be held on 29 June 2010 at the Federation Centre from 10.00 am – 3.00 pm.
There will be hundreds of jobs on offer from local businesses, apprenticeship organisations and Government agencies.
“It’s pretty simple. We are putting local employers with jobs and local people looking for work in the one place,” Mr Clare said.
“Unemployment in the Hunter employment priority area is at 5.9 per cent, above the national average. That’s why this expo is so important.”
Member Hunter, Joel Fitzgibbon, said that the Jobs Expo was the next step in the Rudd Government’sKeep Australia Workinginitiative in the Hunter region.
“One of the things people said at theKeep Australia Workingforum we had here in Maitland last year was the Government needed to do more to connect job seekers with employers looking for work. This is exactly what the expo will do,” Mr Fitzgibbon said.
“I encourage all job seekers to come on down to the Jobs Expo. Come and talk to the employers and check-out the huge jobs board with hundreds of jobs on offer.
“I also hope that local businesses looking for workers will come down, and set up a stall.”
