Country music star Troy Cassar-Daley will be on hand today to launch Lismore’s Keep Australia Working Jobs Expo where more than 400 jobs and apprenticeships will be on offer.
Parliamentary Secretary for Employment Jason Clare and Member for Page Janelle Saffin will join Mr Cassar-Daley at the Goonellabah Sports and Aquatic Centre today.
Mr Clare said the Centre would be transformed into a jobs supermarket.
“It’s pretty simple. We are putting local employers with jobs and local people looking for work in one place,” Mr Clare said.
“This is one of about 20 Jobs Expos we are holding around in the country in areas hardest hit by the global recession – like Lismore.
“Unemployment here is 6.5 per cent and a quarter of local people are on income support.
“That’s well above the national average and that’s why we’re holding today’s Jobs Expo.”
Around 60 exhibitors will have jobs on offer – including major local employers and training companies like:
- Racing NSW with 50 positions
- JHA Recruitment with 40 positions
- House with No Steps with around 30 positions
- Northern Cooperative Meat Company with 15 positions, and
- The Defence Force with 10 positions
Ms Saffin said other employers who will have jobs on offer include Woolworths, Aussie Home Loans and the NSW Fire Brigade.
“This Jobs Expo is about getting people in Lismore back to work,” Ms Saffin said.
“It is a one-stop jobs shop – bringing together employers with jobs and people who are looking for jobs.”
