I welcome the Victorian Parliament’s Fire Services Bill Select Committee report, which calls on the Victorian Government to drop their plan to dismantle the CFA.

I recently wrote to the Chair of this committee, highlighting inaccurate claims being made by the Victorian Government in relation to their proposed legislation.

A copy of the letter is attached below.

Last year, the Turnbull Government passed legislation preventing terms being included in enterprise agreements that undermine the capacity of volunteer emergency services organisations to properly manage their volunteer operations.

The Turnbull Government’s legislation in no way prevents the Victorian Government from entering into an enterprise agreement with paid firefighters, as has been claimed by the Victorian Government. Our legislation simply protects the role of volunteers – something Premier Andrews has been persistently trying to undermine.

The 60,000 volunteers at the CFA do an outstanding job in keeping Victorians safe and personify our national character. It’s time for Mr Andrews to give up on his campaign to undermine them.
