The Australian Government today announced the appointment of an interim Employment Facilitator to support retrenched Illawarra workers into employment with a priority on those affected at BlueScope.
Minister for Employment, Senator the Hon Michaelia Cash today welcomed Ms Tracey Freeman to the role and highlighted the difference her work will make in ensuring BlueScope workers can successfully transition into new jobs.
Minister Cash said the appointment of an interim Employment Facilitator was part of a $670,000 structural adjustment package specifically targeted to connect retrenched workers with a wide range of support services.
“Few things are as important as helping people into work and Ms Freeman will play a vital role in ensuring BlueScope workers get back into the workforce as quickly as possible,” said Minister Cash.
“Ms Freeman has over 30 years’ experience with local industries and will work closely with Australian and State Government agencies in the Illawarra, along with local government and regional authorities to engage their assistance in coordinating services for retrenched workers.”
BlueScope workers will also have access to intensive employment assistance available through the Government’s $6.6 billion jobactive service.
“As part of her role, Ms Freeman will work with local jobactive providers, employers and training services to ensure workers have the skills they need to re-enter the workforce and provide them with opportunities for retraining and further education,” said Minister Cash.
“Ms Freeman will be an on-the ground resource and I encourage all retrenched workers to make contact with her to discuss their employment needs. Employers with job opportunities are also encouraged to make contact.”
