Fair Work Commission Annual Wage Review

The Fair Work Commission has today increased the national minimum wage rate by 3.3 per cent, from 1 July 2017. The national minimum wage rate applies to approximately 200,000 workers. 

The national minimum wage will increase from $17.70 an hour or $672.70 per 38 hour week to $18.29 an hour or $694.90 per week (an extra $22.20 per week).

The Turnbull Government respects the independence of the Fair Work Commission which aims to balance the interests of workers, employers, the economy and jobs.

As in previous years, the FWC also increased the minimum wages in all 122 awards by the same percentage as the national minimum wage rate, meaning a total of approximately 2.3 million workers will have a 3.3 per cent wage increase from 1 July 2017.

Today’s rise compares to a 2.4 per cent increase in 2016 and a 2.5 per cent increase in 2015 for both the national minimum wage rate and award wages.

The 3.3 per cent increase in the national minimum wage rate and awards represents a real increase, as the inflation rate currently sits at 2.1 per cent in the year to the March quarter 2017.
